Just me?

I'm not sure, but I don't think they had planes in 1836.

Notice the nice little jet stream going across the sky.

AltaVista top 3

Apparently if you go into AltaVista image search and type in "funny invites" my engagement picture comes up as the third selection right next to a sign in Arkansas. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel about that. Should I be happy since it has been the highest I've ever been placed in a search engine, or should I feel weird that such a weird search would bring up my picture?

Wow, these people had it coming. That might be harsh but, my goodness. Instead of calling 911 they call their friends? Hello? What are you, retarded or what?

Racial Profiling: Fact or Fiction

Over at Ambra Nykol's blog I happened on a post about racial profiling and some of the experiences she went through being harassed by police. It seems as if this is still a problem nowadays. While I feel that it is sad that this still goes on I feel sadder by the fact that people would still have a reason to think it accurate.

Since I am a comedian I can see how successful jokes that use racial stereotypes can be. Even though they are jokes, they wouldn't be funny if they weren't based in fact. It stinks that people are prejudged by stereotypes about their gender, race, religion,or sexual preference, but the truth is that something has happened with that group of people that makes others think of them in a certain light.

For example: I am half Mexican. So I do jokes about that sometimes. One of those jokes is how since I'm half mexican I can wake up on Saturday morning and tell you where every single yard sale is within a 10 mile radius. Stereotypical? Yes, but how many times have you either had or been to a yard sale and there wasn't at least one Hispanic person who came by?

Racial profiling is negative and wrong. People should not suffer harassment by the hands of police officers just because they fit a certain ethnic stereotype. Unfortunately, I think that unless people start doing something to eliminate stereotypes it will always be that way.

Vote for Bush

Her's some visual proof of why you should vote for Bush. (Thanks to my wife for these)

Kerry catches like a girl.

I don't even have words for this one. It's just sad.

WTF?!

This is by far one of the weirdest reasons I've ever heard to not have a Halloween party at a school. I hate this world of political correctness.

Check it out here.

Things that make you go 'Damn I'm stupid!"

This morning I pulled into my parking spot near UVSC campus and I was excited because I got a really nice spot. All my joy was sucked away, however, when I turned to the back seat to get my backpack and realized that it wasn't in the car. I could have sworn I left it in the car last night. But then I remembered that I did in fact take it out and its sitting in my apartment.

Luckily I shouldn't need my backpack for my class this morning so I'll have a chance to pick it up later. I just love it when things like this happen and I'm reminded that even though I'm smarter than most people, I'm still stupid in my own right.

Moore Hype than Anything Else

Well, Michael Moore has come through Utah Valley and everything is still as it should be. In a way I feel like there was so much hype about this event that it would never have lived up to anyone's expectations. People who opposed Moore were few and far between. Their boos could be heard occasionally but they weren't noted too much.

I for one am disappointed with the fact that Moore didn't use too many facts to support his views. Between all the 'ums' and Republican bashing he didn't seem to get too many facts through. He did make it clear how he felt about Bush though. He even went so far as to show some anti-Bush 'Vote for Bush' commercial spots(if that makes sense). I actually thought that those were pretty funny.

Even Roseanne made an appearance. Yes, Roseanne from the TV show. She cracked a few jokes but really didn't have anything too important to say.

I think that all in all people have been making a big deal out of nothing. If anything it inspired more people to vote which is a very good thing. A few people were even using the event to make some money as anti-Bush and anti-Moore shirts were being sold outside of the venue.

Now I guess that UVSC will go back to the way it was before this whole thing started. If Kay "Adolf" Anderson is still going to sue the school he's an idiot. It's over now dude. Just drop it. We don't need you and your fascist ways.

Politics and Such

Well, with the whirlwind of vast political rhetoric that seems to be sweeping the country it becomes difficult for one to really form your own opinion. Depending on where you get your information you could have a completely different idea about what the facts are than someone else.

I don't think there really exists a fair and balanced medium to obtain information about candidates or issues. Every source seems to be skewed some way and some sources are so blatantly bias that it seems that they have their own political agendas.

For example, I live in Utah(Republican central). It's hard to hear opposing viewpoints when the sources provided are very bias. If it wasn't for the internet and cable television I would only hear one side of everything. Now try to bring someone here with an opposing viewpoint and watch the fireworks. Michael Moore will be speaking here at Utah Valley State College tomorrow and ever since that announcement people have been freaking out. One idiot,(aka Kay 'Adolf' Anderson), is actually trying to sue the school!

Where do I get my political info? Well, I listen to Sean Hannity(right wing nut job), Michael Savage(pissed off right wing psychopath), and I read various political blogs like Instapundit. These give me a variety of views and I'm left to balance out what I think are the facts. When taken with a grain of salt most political pundits make good points and the trick is finding out which ones you agree with.

That's why I'll be going to Michael Moore tomorrow. Will I agree with everything he has to say? Hell no! But he might have a nugget or two of information that will help me to understand the crazy country we live in.

Maybeattitudes

Well I was sitting in church this Sunday and they started talking about the Beattitudes. You know those, "blessed are the...". So anyway, while I was sitting there I couldn't help but think about attitudes that weren't mentioned. I came up with a few of them that I thought would be pretty funny and wrote them down.

I don't know why I always think of stuff like this during church. Maybe it means I'm going to hell. Anyway, here they are: The Maybeattitudes.

"Blessed are the dumb, for they shall be put out of their misery."

"Blessed are the ugly, for they shall not be tempted to fornicate."

"Blessed are the handicapped, for they shall receive the best parking."

"Blessed are the old, for they shall be humored."

"Blessed are the bald, for they shall save money on haircuts."

"Blessed are the fat, for they shall be warmer in winter."

"Blessed are the poor and lazy, for they shall receive a welfare check."

"Blessed are the blessed, for they shall be blessed."

Well, there they are.

Plays

Well, I finished my 2nd draft of a new ten minute play last night. I'm pleased with it since it's a dramatic piece. I've never been too good at writing drama. I'll be reading it in class today so we'll see how that goes. That's my second play for the class. The other was a comedy and I feel that it was much better. Soon I'll get the links to them up so you people can read them.

IE sucks

Well that's basically the jist of it. Anyone who is still using IE needs to switch to a new browser. Sometimes my page doesn't load right on IE, plus spyware and pop-ups abound. Using Mozilla Firefox has been one of the best things I've done. I would recommend it to everybody. Check out the link on the side.

Say Hello to my Face

I just thought this would spice up the blog a little bit. Tell me if there's just too many Spencer heads for you to handle. I may put another picture instead but I think it looks better than just bare colors. Please let me know what you think.

Contact and Car Crash

Why do I always seem to procrastinate everything? I swear that will be the death of me. I have an astronomy "observing" project that is due today. Of course I had like a month and a half to do it but I leave it till the night before. I'm supposed to observe stars, or the moon, and things like that. The only problem is that it was cloudy last night. So I opted to do one of the projects we could do indoors.

Basically what it consists of is watching one of three movies and writing about their scientific data. The movies were either Armaggedon, Deep Impact, or Contact. Because the other two movies were gone from the video store I was left getting Contact. (Probably more procrastinators like me also visited the video store.)

Also, yesterday I saw a car accident. It happened right on Univ. Pkwy. in front of the new pediatrics center thing. This lady rear ended this guy and so I stopped to make sure someone would be called. I think the lady broke her foot because she couldn't stand on it and it was all swollen.

Utah Valley gets Hannitized

What can I say. It was probably one of the biggest political rallies ever in Utah County (unless of course you count Stadium of Fire as a political rally.) Filled with conservative rhetoric Sean Hannity blasted everything liberal from the evil liberal media to #1 Liberal John Kerry.

Going into this I'll have to say that I was skeptical of Hannity's motives for coming here. He doesn't necessarily have a political agenda but he sure has a professional one. He seemed to bask in the great conservative aura that filled the McKay Events Center. His remarks were direct and targeted different liberals specifically. Among those were of course John Kerry who Hannity described as "not consistent" along with Bill Clinton, Ted "hiccup" Kennedy, and Michael Moore.

Hannity called Michael Moore a "gutless coward" for not debating with him as was originally proposed by the UVSC student government. Honestly I don't see how a debate between the two could be that interesting. Both of them are so set in their views and unwilling to listen to anything else that trying to get them to debate would be like trying to convert a Southern Baptist to Mormonism.

I don't think that people who are opposed to Moore's visit have anything to complain about now. Hannity is so far to the right that he more than balances the liberalism and propaganda of Michael Moore. People like Kay Anderson, who is trying to involve legal action to oust the student government, need to just forget about it. This guy really pisses me off though and I think I might do a post about him some time.

Two things during the rally were fairly entertaining. First of all was when a UVSC student who happens to be a Michael Moore look alike came to the stage. Second, was when Hannity led the crowd in a chant of "flip-flop", speaking of Kerry's positions on just about everything.

To say that it didn't change my opinion on anything would be untrue. I found out that people in large groups are even stupider than I originally thought. Hearing them cheer and jeer and shout out random stupid things was enough to tell me that whoever can manipulate the crowd can have lots of power.

Don't mess with Grandma

One of the most bizarre news stories I've seen in awhile. A sixty year-old woman jumping on a crocodile! How the hell could she have survived that? Her son had to shoot the freakin thing to bring it down.

I learned a valuable lesson, and that is: Never go through Australia without a grandma and a gun.

I Love the Honor Code is Dead!

Well, I killed my Provo Blog. Those of you who were looking for 'I Love the Honor Code' are welcome here. It's basically the same thing here. I can just post whatever I want and it doesn't necessarily have to be Provo themed. I'll be putting up links to some of the archives so if there is something you're looking for you'll still be able to find it. I'll also bring in the Soapbox as well.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Yes that's right. I'm using a new template. I actually did this one myself. It's simple but c'mon, I'm teaching myself how to do this. Anyway, expect some other changes as well. I'll be consolidating my other blog to this one because it has become a monumental task to run both of them seperately.
